I have a hiking gear checklist which I use on every trip to ensure nothing is forgotten. This was before I was on a one week guided walking holiday in Umbria, Italy with HF Holidays.
Hiking Gear Checklist Items recommended by the tour operator:
- Two sets of comfortable outdoor clothing (I take Hiking pants and/or shorts; quick dry shirts along with arm warmers for cool mornings; hiking socks)
- Spare pullover or fleece, hat, gloves (we will be hiking in the mountains)
- Waterproof jacket and over-trousers. I take a Gore Tex jacket
- Hiking boots for ankle support
- Small pack sack (rucksack)
- Water bottle (at least one litre)
- High energy snacks
- Sun hat, sunglasses and sunscreen
- Pair of walking poles or trekking poles (optional)
- Camera with extra set of batteries
- Personal first aid kit (include something for blisters)
Additional hiking gear checklist items on my list which are placed in my suitcase on wheels:
- Gaiters (optional, depends on season and destination)
- Pad or cushion to sit on during lunch (optional, but a nice touch) or even better a walkstool
- Container for lunch (maybe one of those plastic banana holders)
- Toilet paper (amazing how many people forget this item)
- For evening use two extra sets of clothes, windbreaker, toiletries, sewing kit, flashlight, small scissors or pocket knife, hair dryer with adapter (optional), walking shoes
- Pajamas and bathing suit (optional)
- Laundry soap
- Airline ticket, passport, local currency, notebook, reading material
- Travel guidebook; phrase book and/or maps
As we are going with a guided tour travel insurance is mandatory. Since everyone always asks me what is on my hiking gear checklist I have included it above, hope it helps.
